Philip Morris, Saul Zaentz Score Wins With Russian Trademark Regulator

A Russian intellectual property agency ruled in favor of Philip Morris and the Saul Zaentz Company in disputes over trademark registrations on Oct. 2. Released on Oct. 3, the decision of the Chamber of Patent Disputes of the Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent) annulled an earlier decision to allow the registration of the MAXIM PREMIUM trademark in Russia by German tobacco company Re-emtsma Cigarettenfabriken GmbH. In February, Philip Morris Products SA and Philip Morris Brands SARL requested that Rospatent review and reconsider the registration of MAXIM PREMIUM, resulting in the Oct. 2 decision.
