Hytera Communications Corp. doesn't have turn over employee computers for a forensic inspection in a trade secrets case brought by Motorola Solutions Inc., a federal magistrate ruled. It's not apparent how an examination of Hytera's computers and servers would provide Motorola with evidence relevant to a statute of limitations issue, Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Cole, of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, said. Chicago-based Motorola sued Hytera, alleging that the Chinese company illegally obtained trade secrets and infringed patents related to radio technology. The federal district court judge is allowing the parties to conduct discovery on only the issue of whether Motorola waited too long to bring its case, while a motion for summary judgment is pending.
