The Biker-Mate product from UK firm Signpost Solutions is now saving the lives of motorcyclists in the UK and other countries, following the use of the system in many hazardous locations. The product was developed in association with energy absorbent structures experts Euro Road Safety and features plastic press-load modules designed to absorb energy and divert force. These Biker-Mate modules are strapped to the base of lamp posts and road signposts and reduce the intensity of an impacting motorcyclist's kinetic energy by the inner crushed absorber units. The structural deformation also diverts the motorcyclist from the object, avoiding direct contact with the rigid obstacle. According to Signpost Solutions, tests show that Biker-Mate has a 30% absorption capacity of the impact energy.
