GM Foods: A Safety and Sustainability Debate

摘要

Genetically modified (GM) plants are plant crops whose genetic material has been modified using genetic engineering techniques, by introducing genes from another plant species or other unrelated organisms such as bacteria. Desired traits in plant crops can be improved in a fast and accurate manner using genetic engineering (GE) techniques, because these methods allow selecting and introducing specific genetic traits. In some instances the GE method might be the only method available to alter a trait in plants.
