If ever there was a defining moment in how UK manufacturers approach the way in which they procure and pay for their energy, the year 2006 was probably it. Up until then, things had been very different. In fact, the previous 20 years had actually seen energy costs reduce, in real terms. Now manufacturing is having to face up to a future of ever increasing costs, with little or no respite in sight, indeed, world manufacturing energy consumption is projected to increase by 44% from 2006 to 2030, according to the US Energy information Administration.
