Nissan decision brings good news to UK manufacturing

Nissan have announced that they will continue production of the best-selling Qashqai at their plant in Sunderland, in a much-needed boost for manufacturing in the north-east and the UK as a whole. The company also unexpectedly announced that production of the X-Trail SUV model will be moved to Sunderland from Spain. Nearly 7,000 people are employed by the Japanese carmaker in the city, making it one of the region's largest employers. This number is set to rise with the arrival of the X-Trail, Nissan said.
