Various MPs from both sides of the house have called for the government to do more to secure the future of British steel, following business minister Sajid Javid's claim that renationalising the industry is not a viable long-term option. A petition to recall parliament has already attracted more than 90,000 signatures in less than 24 hours. And labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said he backed a recall when he visited the Port Talbot steel works on Wednesday. "I'm here to back British steel and not see it destroyed on the altar because a global corporation has decided Port Talbot is expendable. Sorry; it's not. We've got a different story," he said.
