摘要

Neoliberal policies of the last 30 years have in effect increased class inequality among the high-skilled and lower-class workers. In Migrants and Their Money: Surviving Financial Exclusion, looking at Brazilian, Bulgarian, Polish, Turkish and Somali migrants in London, Datta shows how these migrants struggle for financial inclusion. As she posits, employment type, immigration status and race shape who is excluded from formal access to banking, savings and credit, as well as the strategies that migrants use to become financially included. In a creative way, the book ties structure and agency, showing the impact of immigration policies on migrants, yet also highlighting that migrants are not passive recipients of poor working conditions; instead they are able to use many formal and informal ways to improve their financial standing.
