In the spring, a passenger vessel headed down to Florida from New England for the summer season. The owner had a lucrative contract justifying the cost of moving the operation south for part of the year. The vessel had a Coast Guard Certificate of Inspection (COI) that included Florida waters. The owner needed permission to change the insurance policy navigation area and remove lay-up wording plus important policy wording that said, "the vessel must be north of Montauk, N.Y., between June 1 and Dec. 1." That's a warranty on the insurance policy. In ocean marine insurance, if that warranty is violated there is no coverage.
