I work for West Coast Contractors in Coos Bay, Ore. We are a heavy construction company and do most of our work over water on bridges, docks, etc. We just completed the construction of a new dock facility for NOAA vessels in Newport, Ore. I am the truck boss and also take care of the tugs. I am also a licensed captain.I sometimes operate a research vessel when the other captain is not available and belong to the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. What Capt. Callender wrote in the August Mail Bag ("TWIC card is a farce") is right. The Auxiliary does not recognize either the TWIC card or a captain's license. And, as he said, neither do airports.
