Manufacturers of marine cranes have done a pretty good job of developing reliable products. As long as a boat operator doesn't go the cheap route and install a truck instead of a marine crane, or get a crane that's more complex than needed — say a knuckle-boom instead of a fixed or telescoping crane — then he'll probably be OK. A product coming out soon could open up possibilities for crawler cranes. There's also a relatively new high tech, precision marine crane that's been available for about three years, though its manufacturer doesn't always like to tout it.
