The combined North and South Island auction on February 19 saw an improvement in returns for better styled wools. The NZ dollar weakened by around 2.5% from the previous week's sale on February 12, contributing to a firm market. Better coloured well grown fleece made gains of up to 2.5%, with poorer styled fleece types generally unchanged. Fine and coarse early shorn and second shears rose by up to 2%. First lambs 28 microns and finer were generally 2.5% dearer, while coarser types were unchanged. Oddments remained firm overall. Main competition came from Australasian carpet mills, India, Western Europe, and the Middle East with support from China. The offering of 15,790 bales brought a 78.6% clearance.
