Textile industry weathering wool price storm

While prices for other spinning fibres such as cotton have seen some retrenchment in recent weeks, the wool market has continued to march inexorably higher, with Australian prices leading the way.The Australian Wool Exchange's Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) set yet another new record high towards the end of June, standing at 1,436 cents, 60% higher than its value at the beginning of this season in July 2010. The reality for the majority of buyers, who purchase in US dollars, is still more challenging. Expressed in US currency, the EMI has doubled in value since July 2010.
