With British brands riding high in China, businesses are clamouring to attract the attention of consumers and cash in whilst demand is still strong. Bower Roebuck, on the other hand, is not in any rush. This West Yorkshire-based fine worsted fabric manufacturer is taking a considered approach to ensure it attracts the right business. Managing director Ronald Hall argues that whilst China is a lucrative market it takes time to develop and convey an understanding of European fabric, which is already strong in countries such as Japan. China is a one season situation for wool cloth due to the humid climate. Worsted fabrics are destined for winter collections at the end of the year. Offering a general collection through their agent's three offices in Guangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai, Bower Roebuck is testing the waters in China, where an appreciation for British heritage goods is growing.
