The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall visited Johnstons of Elgin's Eastfield Mill site in Hawick to unveil The Royal Warrant granted by HRH to the company for the manufacture and supply of Estate Tweed cloth to the Royal household. During the visit their Royal Highnesses, known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland, met many of the Johnstons of Elgin staff engaged in making up garments, as well as apprentices joining what is now an expanding trade. Five local Kelso hill farmers, growers of the Cheviot wool used in Johnstons of Elgin's fine tweed, were introduced to HRH The Prince of Wales, who is the patron of the Campaign for Wool. Local bales of greasy wool were displayed for inspection.
