Global wool market review

After being close to the 1,300 cents mark at the beginning of June, the Australian wool market fell back somewhat around the middle of the month, due in large part to exchange rate fluctuations. The Australian Wool Exchange (AWEX) Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) closed at 1,296 cents per kilo clean on June 2. However, the following week it fell by 26 cents (2%) to close at 1,270 cents on June 9. The Australian dollar against the US dollar reached 74.65 US cents on June 9, up 2.26 cents (3.1%) on the previous week. However, the underlying strength of the wool market was illustrated by a 9 cents (1 %) rise in US dollar terms to close on 948 US cents per kilo.
