Philippines government initiative to revive country's silk sector

The Philippines government is researching the development of local silk production to remedy a serious supply crunch for Filipino fabric manufacturers. In 2015 Philippines' raw silk demand was 10 metric tonnes but production was just 0.425 tonnes, according to data from the Philippines Fiber Development Authority (PhilFIDA). The institute is a wing of the government's Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
