Is the Brazilian textile sector finally seeing an end to the contraction in sales and production prompted by the country's recession? According to figures released by industry association ABIT (Association Brasileira de Industria Textil e Confecçao), the tide is turning and better times are on the horizon. After three years of recession, growth in Brazil's economy is now predicted for 2017, with the government saying the country's GDP will rise 1% this year, having fallen 3.5% in 2016. In the fabrics and yarns sector, 2017 will see better growth still - in production (up 1.5%) and sales (up 1.5%), year-on-year. Last year, Brazil's production declined 5.9% and sales in Brazil were down 6.20%, states ABIT.
