Life cycle assessment (LCA) is the most commonly used method for evaluating a product's environmental performance (or 'footprint'). It measures different categories of impact such as greenhouse gas emissions, water use, and resource use and depletion. Used as a tool, LCA can help identify 'hot spots' along a supply chain - areas which can then be improved. That's what makes it relevant for sustainability.
