Preparing of Hydroxymethylcaprolactam - Cross Linking Agent of Wool Fibres

It is well known, that it is possible to substantially diminish the degradation of wool during dyeing with the help of formaldehyde. In acidic medium formaldehyde forms crossing co-valent bridges in the keratin, which diminishes the acidic hydrolysis of the wool fibres. However the latter is rarely applied due to its toxicity and unpleasant and irritating odour. The present work shows research, concerning the conditions for synthesis of formaldehyde donor on the basis of pure caprolactam and olygoamids. The prepared hydroxymethylcaprolactarn /HMCL/ is used when dyeing wool with chroming dye. Data for the change of alkalisolubility and carbmiddisulfite solubility, obtained with fibres dyed in the presence HMCL and compared with those with standard dyeing show the expedience of the usage of HMCL for protection of the wool against degradation.
