Michell & Cia., S.A., based in Arequipa, Peru, has been a pioneer in alpaca processing and industrialisation ever since the business was founded in 1931. Soon after its birth, it became the first company to carry out the classing of alpaca fibre and developed what is today the standard for the industry worldwide. Then during the 1940s it became the first business to start transforming alpaca fibre into yarns, creating what remains the oldest alpaca yarn brand, Indiecita.
