The Designs of Doug Hylan

The Albury brothers of the Abaco island group in the Bahamas built more than 250 of these distinctive, locally famous outboard skiffs over the course of 40 years. Doug Hylan was the first to document these boats and offer the resulting plans for amateur and professional builders. The original boats were strip-planked over sawn frames of madeira, a Bahamian hardwood. Hylan specifies laminated frames, and offers an alternative plan for cold-molding. Hylan & Brown describe the Albury hulls as 'smooth-riding, seaworthy, rugged boats, capable of excellent speed with modest horsepower.'
