Randy Cunningham of British Columbia, Canada, rescued the last unconverted 63-footer, P-619. As a boy in the 1960s, he admired one that had been converted for use by the Canadian Forest Service. After missing the chance to buy that boat in 2004, his search took him to the Sacramento River in California. Built by Miami Shipbuilding in 1943, P-619 was the last remaining 63-footer in the world in original military layout. She served with the U.S. Army Air Forces (AAF) in the Pacific from 1943 to 1945. She later served with the U.S. Navy at a Sacramento air base until being decommissioned in the 1950s.
