Lanchas Colectivas: Argentina's varnished passenger launches

It's an ordinary sunny morning in the Estacion Fluvial, a river basin in Tigre, just north of Argentina's capital, Buenos Aires. Before heavy Detroit, Gray, or Mercedes diesel engines roar to life, young men wipe the dew from 40 or so passenger launches that are rafted together here. It is part of their morning routine: Every sunny day they wipe water droplets from the glossy triangles of tidy foredecks, from 6 "-wide covering boards, and from the topside planking as far as an arm can reach. Dew, touched by the morning sun, burns varnish quickly. And in the Estacion Fluvial, sun, dew, and varnish are plentiful.
