Beecher Halsey III of Westhampton chose to build his new SS-class boat with the species of wood used in the original boats: hackmatack compass timbers for frames and cypress for the keel, centerboard trunk, and deckbeams. Both are difficult to find in New York today, but his determination means that his new boat, named GHOST, will be built as close as possible to the original specifications-closer than many of the later boats.
