The Ultimate Honing Guide is made by a retired German engineer named Gerd Fritsche, who is an accomplished metalworker; he also makes metal-bodied planes that are put together with hammer-formed dovetails. This versatile jig holds plane irons and chisels securely, and permits the bevel to be presented to a sharpening stone or other abrasive surface at any practical angle. Its design is such that the support wheel does not run on the abrasive; rather, it runs on the surface upon which the abrasive sits. The tool is made from 0.075"- and 0.115 "-thick stainless steel, probably laser-cut to shape. It's very neatly welded together for a very sturdy end result.
