Wire Rope News and Sling Technology, the first trade magazine for the wire rope industry, was started in 1979 by my father, Edward Bluvias Sr. in the small, quiet town of Winfield Park, NJ. It began with a room full of telephone books. I was about 10 years old when my dad and mom, Pat, began collecting the telephone books from every state. They were kept in a spare bedroom in my grandparents' home. I remember the stacks and stacks of books went close to the ceiling, filling nearly every inch of the room. From these books the first mailing list would be created. My dad and mom spent countless hours combing through the yellow-pages searching for any listings that were relevant to wire rope.
