Government gets 22 project proposals

The Uruguayan government has received 950MW of proposals from 15 companies for a 150MW tender. In all, 22 projects were put forward and will be judged on technical aspects, including type of wind turbines, capacity and site location. The winning projects will be granted a 30-year supply contract. National utility UTE is due to make a decision by the end of the year and the developments are expected to come online by 2014. Regions proposed for wind developments are Cerro Largo, Florida, Lavalleja, Maldonado, Montevideo, San Jose and Tacuarembo. Uruguay has installed wind energy capacity of 18MW. It failed to bring any new capacity online in 2009.
