Vestas, together with industry and academia partners, reported a breakthrough in developing a solution for recycling wind-turbine blades-typically the hardest part of turbines to recycle. The partners, including epoxy producer Olin, the Danish Technological Institute and Aarhus University, claim to have already proven the concept in feasibility tests and plan further trials to scale up the technology. They aim to present a fully scoped solution for commercialising the technology-disassembling thermoset composites into fibre and epoxy and then using chemical reactions to further break up these into base materials-within three years.
