Vestas launched a new offshore wind turbine - the V236-15.0MW - in February, pulling ahead of its rivals in terms of rotor diameter, rotor-swept area and nominal power rating. The Danish firm said it optimised design synergies from its existing onshore and offshore models to develop the 15MW model. The turbine can boost annual energy production by up to 65% compared with its V174-9.5MW model, Vestas said. A prototype of the V236 is expected in summer 2022, followed by serial ramp-up from 2024.
