The Interface between Commercial and Political Risk: Issues of Regulation, Governance and Security in Western and Emerging Markets

Having examined what actually constitutes political risk and some of its forms, we now turn to questions about locus. Where, and under what circumstances, are companies exposed to commercial risk derived from political risk? What is the actual interface between the two? This chapter distinguishes three key areas in which the exercising of political power can create commercial risks for businesses: the regulatory environment; public policy relating to governance issues; and public policy relating to security issues.
