摘要

Abstract—This paper aims to describe a framework that formallynevaluates end-user interactions with lighting control interfaces , thenantecedent factors that help form it, and its applications. Thenframework uses the concept of tangible interaction to distinguishnbetween notions of usability and end-user experience, and argues thatnboth have an impact on the overall effectiveness of lighting controlninterfaces. Usability i s concerned with easier understanding of controlnfunctions. End-user experience is concerned with explicating the qualitynof end-users’ experience such as fun and pleasure of use. Surveynresearch and experimental mock-ups were used to design experimentsnthat enabled end-users to evaluate their own interactions withnconventional lighting control interfaces. End-user responses obtainednfrom these experiments challenge manufacturers’ claims about theneffectiveness of conventional lighting control interfaces, and reveal andifferent way of thinking about future interface designs. Such a changenin thinking could l ead to lighting control interfaces that are easier tonunderstand and more pleasurable to use. A set of measures for futurenempirical testing is provided that is general enough to allownresearchers to create measures for other aspects related to end-userninteractions beyond those targeted in this paper.
