Perhaps now we will wake up about drainage Now we know we are going to get more flooding. We know that we are, as a country, unprepared to deal with regular, severe incidences of flooding. And we know that the insurance companies will not pay for all the damage that is inflicted on unprepared householders. So what are the alternatives open to us? The idea of one single agency to deal with flooding, as suggested by Professor Richard Ashley, Sheffield University and specialist advisor to the House of Lords Committee for Science and Technology, seems to have been taken up by the government, which has now indicated it would like the Environment Agency (EA) to be responsible for flooding.
