Palintest says its US EPA-approved SA-1000 Scanning Analyser uses tiny, disposable electrode sensors to provide fast, accurate on-site testing for lead and copper concentrations in potable water. According to Palintest, portable testing for these elements has traditionally suffered from a limiting lack of precision, but says its technique - enabled by complex technology -provides results that are comparable to those obtained from lab-based atomic absorption methods. No complex sample preparation is required, the firm adds. A conditioning tablet is added to the water, and then the electrode is inserted. The battery-powered SA-1000 then applies varying currents and potentials to determine the scale of lead and copper ion presence down to 5μg/l. Results are then saved in the unit's memory and can be uploaded onto a PC for reporting purposes. The testing process, Palintest says, takes three minutes and requires no special training or additional equipment, providing a cost-effective solution to potable water testing.
