In his Viewpoint article on the durability of plastic pipes (WET News, December 2007), Dr Jason Shingleton made several claims about the strength of plastic pipes. His comment about joint integrity insinuates that, unlike plastic pipes, rigid pipes - including concrete ones - have problems with integrity and joints. This is not true. The concrete pipe industry has the most detailed specification on joint durability under European standards.
