THAMES WATER has installed a flow meter to cope with low flow velocities in a pipe joining the Stoke Newington Reservoir and Coppermills water treatment works in London. The Stoke Newington Reservoir is fed from the New River. Water enters Amhurst Main via a log barrier and weir and then goes into a 36-inch diameter concrete pipe. This runs for 20m and then bends in the direction of Coppermills Water Treatment works. The meter was requested by Thames Water for leak detection to keep track of the condition of this old pipe joining the reservoir and the works, a distance of 5km.
