Contractors will soon know who the winners and losers are from the transfer of private sewers to water company ownership, with announcements expected soon from water companies of frameworks and contracts for the new work. Regulations to effect the transfer of virtually all private sewers and lateral drains to the water and sewerage companies have now been made - they took effect on July 1, 2011. For the majority of installations, the transfer is planned to take effect on October 1,2011. Northumberland Water is to appoint two contractors to handle work created by the transfer of private sewers to water company ownership. An announcement is expected "soon", says Alistair Baker at Northumbrian Water. Earlier, 35 contractors expressed interest in the work and all were spoken to before invitations to tender were made.
