Water Companies have identified new areas of profitable business opportunities for contractors in their recent assessment of performance against key indicators: it shows environmental performance is lagging behind for several utilities. "In July, companies reported that they are generally delivering good levels of service to most consumers," says Ofwat. "Yet there are areas they need to improve: environmental performance (in particular, pollution incidents) is the one area where a number of companies are reporting issues." Ofwat intends to look at the data more closely and publish a commentary on companies' performance in the autumn. Water companies published the new information to show customers how they are performing against a range of indicators. This results from Ofwat's decision earlier this year to change the way that companies report so that they can communicate to customers more effectively.
