Borger solves fat problems

In the traditionally problematic application where fat is separated from sludge during thickening before it reaches the sludge digestion process, pumps made by Borger have significantly reduced maintenance input at Severn Trent Water's Minworth STW. The maintenance task of jetting out fat has been reduced from around every three weeks, when progressive cavity pumps were in operation, to intervals of around every four months by using1 Borger's rotary lobe pumps. Manjit Chada, Severn Trent Water's programme manager for Major Works E5, says: "To alleviate what is an industry-wide problem with congealing fats, we tri-alled several pumps at Minworth and found that Borger's coped by far the best." Seven 18.5kW FL 518 pumps from Borger have been installed at Minworth. This latest installation follows work for Anglian Water at Caister-on-Sea STW, where all sludge processing is now handled by Borger pumps.
