Northumbrian's boots are made for walking

A total of 270 000 people have taken part in this year's Northumbrian Water Walking Challenge. Between them they took 273 million steps - the equivalent of about 129,000 miles or five times round the world - in just three months.The top individual performer was senior laboratory technician John Garrod, who strode out an impressive 2,985,465 times.
