A derelict industrial landscape once likened to the surface of the Moon has been granted special status for its nature conservation value after South West Water (SWW) bought the land for use as a reservoir and restored the surrounding area. Park Pit and surrounding land on Bodmin Moor, Cornwall, was bought by SWW in 2007 and was described by ecologists as a "moonscape of waste sand and mica".
