A world of innovation

Welcome to the WET News Innovation supplement 2018. Recent years have seen no shortage of calls for the water industry to become more innovative, both in the utility and the contractor space. But with innovation being one of Ofwat's four central themes for the 2019 price review for water companies in England and Wales, there is now a burning platform for innovative practices to help solve the industry's central performance challenges. Against the backdrop of climate change, population growth and the need to build resilience and reduce leakage, innovation will no longer be a 'nice to have' but an essential ingredient of getting things done. Over the next five years water utilities will be looking to their contractor and supply chain partners to help them do things more efficiently, more quickly, more intelligently and at a cheaper cost.
