Auchan Invests In Promising　Tunisian Market

French retailer Auchan has acquired a 10% stake in Tunisian retailernSociété Magasin General (SMG). The deal was done throughnthe firm's supermarket's sub division, Auchansuper, and gives thenfirm exposure to the high-potential Tunisian market. Listed on thenlocal stock exchange, SMG currently has 67 outlets, 52 of whichnare supermarkets. This makes it one of the largest retailers in thencountry, with its key competition coming from French retailersnCarrefour and Monoprix. The market is currently undevelopednwith significant room for further expansion, and Auchan has saidnthat it will provide SMG with technical assistance and help it adoptninternational retailing standards.
