Maintenance Book Needs Some Polishing

In the front matter, the author states the text is "designed to create an awareness of how a maintenance management function for a company can contribute or detract from a company's compliance with regulatory compliance" and is designed to "give an overview of each of the four major compliance programs." He lists the four as OSHA, EPA, FDA, and ISO 9000. For the OSHA program, unfortunately, the author only focuses on OSHA 29 Code of Federal Regulations, part 1910 (29CFR1910), which is known as the general industry standards. He omits discussion of OSHA 29CFR1926, which is known as the construction industry standards. For those of us in the welding and cutting industry, OSHA 29CFR1910 subpart Q, "Welding, Cutting and Brazing," and OSHA 29CFR1926 subpart J, "Welding and Cutting," are of equal importance. The same is true of most other crafts. The omission of the construction industry standards should be corrected by adding a discussion in the next revision of the text.
