Weather is very often dramatic, and adrenaline junkies surge into the Great Plains each spring to chase twisters dangling beneath rotating supercell clouds. Some do it for the love of the hunt, while others do it for photographic opportunities or for scientific research purposes. Driving into a storm seeking that perfect Kodak moment requires more than simple bravado; the intrepid storm chaser must be able to dodge flying pieces of debris and risk drowning by storm surge. But perhaps the most interesting way to "chase" storms is in a research aircraft speeding along at 40,000 feet above the ground.
