A Climate Service, in the Likeness of NWS

In February, the U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke announced the administration's intent to create a new National Climate Service under NOAA. The new entity would serve as a centralized federal source of information for everything from projections of sea-level rise, to forecasts for farmers and regional water managers affected by changing climate conditions, to maps of the nation's best sites for wind and solar power. To mark the announcement, NOAA rolled out a new Web site-www. Climate, gov. Known as the NOAA Climate Portal, the site provides a single point-of-entry for NOAA's extensive climate information, data, products, and services.
