April was another devastatingly dry, dusty, windy month across the southern High Plains, perpetuating an historic, 3.5-year drought. A mid-April freeze caused further harm to the region's prized winter wheat crop. In stark contrast, stubbornly cold, wet, sometimes snowy conditions covered the northern Plains, upper Midwest, and Great Lakes region. For much of this area, conditions were similar to last year's spring-just-won't-arrive April.
