The Earth is warming. Of that much, scientists are largely in agreement. In some places, this warming is being felt more than it is in other locations. For instance, in Seattle, Washington, there have been comparatively few obvious effects of climate change. In other places like Alaska, however, natives' way of life and animals' habitats are endangered, as the region lies under an atmospheric magnifying glass. For humans in relatively protected locales, it is easy to forget the dangers of global warming on a daily basis as we go about our air-conditioned lives. But in areas like those that lie within the Arctic Circle, animals that do not have the combined intellectual and technological ability to protect themselves from a changing environment are at the mercy of weather patterns that are changing faster than they can evolve. And evolution is not likely to speed up in the near future.
