In 1995, a major heat wave struck parts of the Midwest states. Temperatures rose to 106℉ at Chicago Midway Airport. While Hurricane Andrew was the costliest American weather disaster of the 1990s, the 1995 heat wave was the worst in terms of lives lost. In this issue, we'll explore this historic heat wave, show what it looks like on meteorological charts, and try to understand some of the weather patterns underlying this event.
