Following feedback from public meetings that have been held along the length of the Kennet & Avon Canal, plans for 'K&A200', a celebration of the opening of the canal 200 years ago (March WW), have been cut back.rnThe idea of two iconic 'Gateway' sculptures at either end of therncanal at Bath and Reading proved unpopular. They were estimated to cost £ 140,000, and it is felt that something of use, like a bench or gate, would be more suitable - and cost considerably less. Proposed new information panels at key points along the canal have proved a much more popular idea, and a number of riparian town and parish councils have pledged £500rneach for a panel on their length of towpath.
